Seabreeze

This twin structure replaced the existing SR 430 bridge over the Halifax River and Intracoastal Waterway in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The eastbound bridge has spans of 175’ft., 247-ft., and 140-ft. and carries two traffic lanes with shoulders and a sidewalk. The total linear feet of the structure is 4,610-ft. and deck area is 226,082-sq. ft. Each typical span consists of 20 variable depth precast segments 12-ft. long and a 2-ft. cast-in-place closure pour. The segments vary in height from 13-ft. to 8-ft. A total of 404 precast segments were required, including pier and end bent segments.

The superstructure was erected in balanced cantilever using a self- launching, overhead gantry to place the segments. The segments are prestressed transversally and longitudinally using post-tensioning tendons. The superstructure is supported on 8-ft. by 16.5-ft. precast hollow box piers that are also post-tensioned.

The water piers also utilize a conventionally reinforced cast-in-place solid concrete section at the base of the column to withstand ship impact design loads. The water footings located at mudline are 41-ft. in diameter. The footings are supported on 32, 24-ft., square precast concrete piles. The land piers are supported by 28-ft. by 34-ft. footings with 25, 24-in. square precast concrete piles.
