LA Metro - Kramer and Rosecrans Bridges

The Kramer and Rosecrans Bridges are elevated structures that are part of the Green Line Light Rail Mass Transit System servicing the City of Los Angeles. Both structures are located along Interstate 105 to Compton Boulevard and service the Los Angeles International Airport.

The structures are designed to accommodate two lanes of commuter rail traffic. Kiewit Pacific was awarded the contract based on a bid price of $7.3M.

The bridges are prestressed concrete box girders with approach spans constructed on falsework and main spans erected using both balanced and incremental segmental cantilever construction, with form travellers.

The Kramer Bridge has a total length of 620 ft. with a span layout of 125 ft., 185 ft., 185 ft., and 125 ft. The Rosecrans Bridge has a total length of 670 ft. with a span layout of 175 ft., 320 ft., and 75 ft.

The superstructure for both bridges is a two-web, single cell, segmental concrete box girder with a deck width of 27 ft., bottom soffit width of 18 ft. The structure depth varies from 6 ft. in the falsework spans to 15 ft. at the pier on the cantilever spans.

The Kramer Bridge consists of balanced cantilevers spanning between two falsework spans. The Rosecrans Bridge has two falsework spans with two incrementally erected cantilevers comprising the main span. The cantilever construction contains segments with a typical 16 ft. length and an 8 ft. closure segment at midspan.
