Route Avenue Station and Line Section 1F0101
Recchi America, was the prime contractor for
the $44M Branch Route Avenue Station and Line for the Washington
Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in Washington, DC.
The project includes a station and approximately 81,000 sq.
ft. of precast segmental aerial structure. There are two separate
structures; a four span unit with a length of 528 ft. and
a 17-span segment with a length of 2,092 ft.
The cross-section has a width of 31’-0” and carries
two tracks. Span lengths range from 56 ft. to 151 ft. with
a typical span length of 132 ft. Erection was accomplished
using the span-by-span method utilizing an under-slung truss.
Recchi America will cast approximately 277 segments on-site.
Precasting and erection began in the spring of 1996. The bridges
were completed and opened to rail in October 1998.
