GROWTH CONTINUES AS FINLEY ANNOUNCES 2007 YEAR-END RESULTS
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - Finley Engineering Group (FINLEY), an engineering and construction consulting firm specializing in complex bridge projects, reported its third consecutive year of rapid growth in 2007.
"Even with the slowdown in the U.S. economy, we've been able to continue our steady, controlled expansion as a national and international consulting firm," says firm managing principal and founder Craig Finley. "We are very pleased with the amount of work we won, but also with the variety of projects in terms of type and location. From value engineering on the Estero Parkway Flyover and the MIC-MIA projects in Florida to groundbreaking work in Israel, we enjoyed great diversity in our work."
The management team at FINLEY also expanded in 2007, with Sherry Martin and Jerry Pfuntner named as principals. They join Craig Finley and Technical Advisor Jacques Combault to form a skilled, experienced management core. It was a banner year for respected industry veteran Combault as he began a three-year term as president of the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineers (IABSE).
Overall, the firm's revenue grew by 60% and its staff expanded by 40%. At year end, backlog stood at nearly a year.
With the pipeline of opportunities continuing to be strong in 2008, FINLEY is launching an aggressive recruitment program to continue growing the firm at all experience levels. "It's our culture to constantly seek outstanding bridge engineering professionals, from upper management to entry level staff," says Finley. "But given our current workload, and the work we're projecting for 2008 and beyond, we are accelerating the firm's expansion."
Notable projects won or begun by FINLEY in 2007 include:
- Estero Parkway Flyover, Florida. A value engineering redesign by FINLEY will return $1.85 million to Lee County, Florida. The new Estero Parkway Flyover will alleviate traffic on the parkway and nearby I-75 in the Estero community, which is southeast of Fort Myers.

- Kanawha River Bridge, West Virginia. Finley was hired as the construction engineering consultant to Brayman Construction Corporation on the new I-64 Kanawha River Bridge between Dunbar and South Charleston, West Virginia. When finished in 2010, the bridge's 760-foot main span will be the longest concrete box girder span in the United States.
- Section 18 and Road 431 Bridges, Israel. FINLEY will provide design and construction engineering services to contractor Danya-Cebus, Ltd. for the Shelef and Nilly Bridges in Israel. The $210 million (U.S.) build-operate-transfer project is part of Section 18 of the new Highway 6, a public-private partnership venture that is Israel's largest-ever infrastructure project. Finley is also providing final design and construction engineering services for six segmental bridges on Israel’Äôs Road 431 project - the first in Israeli bridge construction history to use external tendons.
- Fourth Street Bridge, Colorado. FINLEY is providing construction engineering services to contractor Flatiron Constructors, Inc., for the 4th Street Bridge in Pueblo, Colorado. The $27.7 million project is for the replacement of the existing bridge, which carries SH 96A over a city street, the Arkansas River, a floodwall, the river trail and railroad yards for the Union Pacific Railroad and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
- Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) Terminal Access Roadway Project - Bridge 10A, Miami. FINLEY is providing value engineering, final design, and construction engineering services to GLF Construction Corporation. The MIC-MIA bridge will serve as an access ramp to a rental car facility at Miami International Airport and incorporate a five-span dual steel box girder superstructure with a variable width and high degree of curvature.
