2010 Outstanding Technical Achievement Award Presented to FINLEY Engineering Group, Inc. for Estero Parkway Flyover Sponsored by the Florida Engineering Society - Big Bend Chapter

FINLEY in association with Zep Construction (ZEP) developed a value engineering change proposal (VECP) for the bridge structure that modified the cast-in-place concrete box girder design to a structural steel box girder design. The VECP provided for a better project and allowed Lee County to receive a $2.94 million refund from the original bid price of $35.1 million. This project offers a model demonstrating that innovation and the efficient use of materials and optimum construction methods can result in a more successful project for both the Contractor and the Owner.

Finalist - Road 431, Ein Ha'Kore
Interchange Bridges

A design-build-operate-transfer project, Road 431 is a cross-country suburban throughway that allows direct travel from the Rishon Lezion city area, bypassing Ramla, and connecting to Road 1 near Modi'in. The road is approximately 21 kilometers long and has three lanes in each direction, reducing traffic on the main access road to the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.

The design team used Bentley Bridge RM to integrate design and construction analysis files, allowing a move from design immediately into construction engineering without requiring significant conversion. Given the distance between FINLEY's office in Tallahassee, Fla., and the project site in Israel, these tools were critical in project team communications. Since all design and shop drawings were transmitted electronically, team members saved time by easily transferring data.
